The practice of peace education is an opportunity to advocate for equitable treatment and social justice. Peace education is the process of attaining the values of love, respect, compassion, forgiveness, and caring. Peace education helps in promoting and developing the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that will assist individuals to create social conditions contributing to peace. In order to promote peace education, the Grade Two students were involved in a Math project “Yummy Breakfast Campaign” to transfer their learning into real life situation and to live by their values. First, the children defined and discussed the meaning of the word peace in class, and they emphasized on the importance of peace in promoting equity and social justice. Each student drew and cut his/her hand on a cardboard. Then, he/she wrote an act of kindness or a quote related to peace on the cut out hand. After, the students stuck the hands together in the form of a tree and a pigeon. The children chose the pigeon since it represents love and peace. Also, they chose the tree since it represents unity, and hand in hand they can achieve peace and be an agent of change within the community. Later, the students visited the supermarket to select the ingredients for their sandwiches, as well as the prices. Then, they evaluated the cost of each sandwich. Finally, they sold the sandwiches and calculated the profit. The money collected will be used to support the people who are less fortunate.
