Lifestyle Medicine Essential: Empowering Students to Make Healthier Choices
As part of its ongoing commitment to student well-being, the Student Child Development Program in the Secondary Division hosted “Lifestyle Medicine Essential,” an awareness session tailored for 2S and IBDP1 students. The session highlighted the foundations of healthy living, including balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, and mindful daily choices that promote long-term physical and mental health.
The session was delivered by the COPTER team from Notre Dame University–Louaize (NDU), combining academic expertise with practical guidance in an interactive, student-focused format.
The session opened with Dr. Antoine Aoun, Director of COPTER, who introduced students to the concept of Lifestyle Medicine. He highlighted how everyday habits, what we eat, how active we are, how we manage stress, and the choices we make, play a decisive role in preventing chronic diseases and promoting overall well-being.
In “Smarter Eating,” Dr. Sibelle Al Hayek, FNHS Assistant Professor, guided students through the principles of balanced nutrition. She emphasized mindful eating, making informed food choices, and understanding how nutrition fuels both academic performance and physical health.
The session concluded with “How Physical Activity Supports Health,” presented by Miss Stephanie Semaan. Students learned how regular movement enhances energy levels, supports mental health, strengthens the body, and complements healthy nutrition as part of a balanced lifestyle.
“Lifestyle Medicine Essential” served as a meaningful reminder that small, consistent choices can lead to lifelong health benefits.
